Flu Shot Side Effects

For the most part, people really handle flu shots well. Many flu shot side effects get reported that really have nothing to do with the flu shot itself.  You will not get the the flu after you receive a flu shot.  It’s not an activated vaccine.

Yes flu shots can cause some side effects.  Make sure you watch over any children receiving their flu shots for the first time.

The most common flu shot side effects are:

Local Reactions: like redness, pain, and swelling at the site where the flu shot was given.  Expect that to last for two days.

Systemic Reactions: this flu shot side effect can start around six to twelve hours after getting your flu shot, and should only last for one to two days.  You will feel well, like you have the flu, but you do not.  Fever, malaise, with muscle aches.

Allergic Reactions: These are the most important flu shot side effects to watch out for.  They can kill you, but are very rare.  People allergic to eggs need to be very careful when getting your flu shot.  If you do have an egg allergy let your doctor know, VERY IMPORTANT.

All in all flu shots are a great way to stay healthy throughout the year.  Just make sure you talk to your doctor about the risks flu shot side effects before going out and getting your flu shot.
