Zocor Side Effects

Most known as Simvastatin, Zocor is prescribed as a cholesterol reducing drug that helps in shielding cholesterol production in the body.  It helps in lowering low density lipoprotein cholesterol level, and total cholesterol levels in the body.  Elevated cholesterol can lead to many health problems. They include: heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular problems.  Even though Zocor aids in protecting the body from these problems, there is potential side effects of zocor.

  • collapsing skeletal muscle tissue
  • kidney failure

Common Zocor Side Effects

  • muscle pain
  • tenderness
  • muscle weakness
  • fever or flue symptoms
  • dark-colored urine
  • constipation or diarrhea

Significant Risks of Zocor

  • You should not take Zocor tablets if you’re pregnant or have a kidney disease.
  • Consult your doctor prior to taking Zocor if you have diabetes, muscle disorder, or hidden thyroid.
  • If you are taking Zocor while on a high fat diet you will get no benefits from Zocor.  Do not drink alcohol while taking Zocor, alcohol increases your triglyceride levels.
  • Also grapefruit and grapefruit juice can cause adverse Zocor side effects.

Just like with any drug Zocor has side effects and risks.  You should talk to your doctor about the Zocor side effects and any other concerns you have with this drug.
